Certificate of Cervantes as a requirement for obtaining Spanish nationality by residence

With the recent entry into force of the Regulation which regulates the procedure for the acquisition of Spanish nationality by residence, is mandatory the realization of a test of knowledge of the language for obtaining the diplomas of Spanish as a foreign language (DELE), minimum at A2 level.

These diplomas are issued by the Minister of Education, culture and sport and, on its behalf, by the Director of the Cervantes Institute. In this way is expected to ensure that the tests are based on objective criteria, so that can reduce any possible differences of interpretation.

It has been considered that this examination is not necessary when it is concerned with citizenship of a country or territory of Spanish-speaking or when stakeholders have previously obtained a DELE level A2 minimum.
